Mark Hartnett

Mini Bio

I was born and brought up in a Christian home in Kolkata, India. When I was 20, I moved to Dubai where I completed my undergraduate degree and started my career in the publishing field. In Dubai, God really got a hold of my life through His people who persevered and invested into my life. He brought me to a point of surrender and in 2009 I sensed God calling me into ministry and returned to Kolkata to serve with a church there. In 2011, God opened up the door for me to come to Heritage College and Seminary in Cambridge, Ontario to pursue my M’Div. It was there that I met and married my bride Ashley. Soon after we moved to Kolkata where I rejoined the church as an Associate Pastor. In 2017 we moved back to Canada and have seen the Lord’s mighty hand and faithfulness at work. In June we felt God’s asking us to take a leap of faith and move to London, Ontario, trusting in Him to provide. He is faithful, and we are truly grateful for the marvelous way He has been at work to bring us here, in His perfect will, time and way.

Ashley and I began attending Compass in July 2018, when we moved to London. I came on staff in November 2018.

Previous Occupation Before Compass

I have had the joy of working in a variety of fields and positions, including marketing, business development, customer service and ministry.

Favourite Bible Verse

I can’t really say I have a favorite Bible verse but one that has been a strong source of strength, comfort and grounding in recent days is Psalm 33:20-22 “We put our hope in the LORD. He is our help and our shield. In him our hearts rejoice, for we trust in his holy name. Let your unfailing love surround us, LORD, for our hope is in you alone.”

Fun Fact

I speak four languages, and smidges of other ones (my accent is constantly changing depending on whom I’m speaking with). I have had a driver’s licences on 3 continents and been on the world’s fastest roller coaster (Formula Rossa in Abu Dhabi, UAE). I grew up playing and watching basketball, inspired by his “airiness” (Michael Jordan) and Kobe Bryant (#8 and #24). I’m fascinated by different cultures and foods, and enjoy looking at what makes us similar and different in spite of geographical differences.
